SNP has its priorities wrong on free prescriptions

4.58.58pm GMT Wed 3rd Feb 2010

Commenting ahead of voting against the Government's move to reduce prescription charges further, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP said:

"NHS Boards are considering cutting nurses and hospital beds as they struggle to cope with the funding squeeze.

"Yet the Government is still determined to extend reduced or free prescriptions to all.

"In this time of recession, the SNP has its priorities wrong.

"Liberal Democrats want those with long term conditions to get their prescriptions for free. That is a fair solution. But the taxpayer should not foot the bill for those who can well afford to pay for their prescriptions themselves."
